CHC41215 Certificate IV in Career Development

This course prepares students for the role as an Associate Career Development Practitioner for work in a range of settings. Graduates of this qualification can apply for associate membership with any of the 10 Career Industry Council of Australia Member Associations.

Associate career development practitioners provide services that help people manage their careers, make occupational and study decisions, plan career transitions and find career information.

Course Update

The Federal Government is reviewing all vocational qualifications including Career Development through Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA). This national review aims to ensure all qualifications continue to meet the evolving needs of industry and learners. 

The JSA Jobs and Skills Council, HumanAbility, has been assigned to review career qualifications and CEAV Institute is currently involved in the review and feedback process. We are currently waiting to hear if the current or newly endorsed qualification will be offered in February 2027.

About the Course

The Certificate IV in Career Development Practice is an AQF Level 4 qualification. Practitioners at this level have theoretical and practical knowledge and skills for skilled work and/or further learning.  Graduates at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and limited responsibility in known or changing contexts and within established job role parameters.

This course features an appropriate balance between theory, models, frameworks and their practical application. The assessment methods reflect this balance and provides students with current and in-depth understandings to support their work with a range of clients. Students are equipped with the skills to research the context of career development frameworks, apply new understandings of quality practice, develop skills in career interviewing and incorporate legal and ethical practices into their work.

The added value of choosing this course with the CEAV Institute (RTO 22523) is its design by professional career practitioners with recent experience in cross-sectoral career development services: government and non-government schools, tertiary education, alternative education, counselling, job placement and employment, career coaching and mentoring, workforce re-entry programs and others. All trainers and assessors with the CEAV Institute also practice with ACCE Career Counselling Service, who provide career education and careers counselling services to the community.
